What in the World is PVD?

It’s a finish.

HA! I’m just kidding… I can tell you more about it.

So, PVD is a lifetime finish that is ideal for exterior doors as well as coastal climates. It is built to last for years through all the outdoor elements.

As you can see in the picture, it is a polished brass color, but if you aren’t a polished brass fan, Baldwin offers all kinds of Lifetime finishes.

So if you are looking for a kickplate or nice looking handleset for your exterior door, go with the PVD or a lifetime finish!

Most Popular Finish

Would definitely be the Bronze or Oil Rubbed Bronze finish.

Practically any brand we carry is available in ORB.

Search Baldwin, Emtek, Grandeur, Kwikset, Nostalgic Warehouse, Schlage, Sure Loc, Taamba, Weiser and Weslock (just to name a few) on our site under shop by brand and look under the oil rubbed bronze categories for all the items that come in this handsome finish.

Andersen Door Hardware

Emtek has a trim style I am sure you will love to add to your Andersen Door. There are so many choices.

Find the styles here.

More importantly, I bet you are wondering if these trims will really fit your Andersen Door.

We have the measurements that you can look over before ordering.

The most important measurements are the 2  center holes, where it says 4 1/8″. The 2 outer holes are where the screws or bolts go through the door to hold the trim in place. So if you had to, you could re-drill those.

Just remember, Emtek does not carry the interior mechanism, only the exterior trims.

Interconnected Lock for Senior Centers

EZSet Grade II ILCT Interconnected Leverset

Interconnected locks aren’t just in the handleset section. You can also find what you would  call “side plate ” interconnected locks as well as commercial grade interconnect locks on our site.

Basically, they have an internal mechanism that unlocks the deadbolt lock when the knob or lever is turned to open the door. Making it very convenient to exit. Shown below.

Interconnected Lock Mechanism

There are many cities now that require interconnected locks in senior centers as well as other care facilities, because of the easy exit feature.

I am not saying senior centers are the only place these may be used.  There are plenty of customers who like this feature on their own home.

Handlesets 411

There are different types of Handlesets. Did you know that?

We now have them easily categorized on our site with pictures to show, but if that still doesn’t explain it, I can help you!

Double Sided Handlesets, (like shown in the picture) have the big “handle” on the front of the door as well as on the inside of the door. We have lots of customers that think they are for double doors, which is not correct. You will need to order 2 full sets (an active as well as a dummy) if you have double doors.

Two Point locks, (notice in the picture) have a deadbolt lock as well as the one right below.

We don’t carry as many with this type of style. But we have quite a few customers that ask for them. They are not standard prepped like most handlesets. Make sure to look at the measurements before ordering.

Emergency Egress or Interconnect Handles, mean that when you are on the inside of the door and the deadbolt it locked, you can turn the knob/lever from the inside and it will automatically unlock the deadbolt above. It makes and easier exit encase of emergency.

Last but most certainly not least, Mortise Locks. These babies are heavy duty.

Notice the side?

It’s a little different than a standard tubular latch type. This is a box that slides into the door and needs special prepping. So make sure your door is prepped correctly for one of these before you order.

Sweet, now you can order exactly what you need.

Hinges Here, Hinges There

You know, when looking for hinges, you wouldn’t ever think you would need to know so much about them before ordering.

The size, shape, finish and sometimes even the hole pattern matter before you go ahead with the order.

Don’t worry, it’s no sweat.

Let me walk you through the SIMPLE steps on how to order a door hinge. It’s easier than it sounds. Promise.

  • Step 1: Size

Take a ruler or measuring tape and measure the length and width of the hinge… like shown.

Up to 5″ hinges, we carry on our site.

  • Step 2: Round or Square Corners

You will need to know if your hinges have round or square corners. If you have square corner hinges, skip to step 3. If you have round corner hinges there are 2 types… so pay attention. Here is a simple way of finding out if you have a 1/4″ radius or a 5/8″ radius hinge. Empty out your pockets for 1 dime and 1 quarter.

If your hinges have round AND square corners, you will need to follow the above step to find out what size radius it is. Unfortunately we only carry 5/8″ radius hinge with square corners. If you need a 1/4″ radius and square hinge you can order a 1/4″ radius set as well as a square corner set and take them apart and mix them yourself if you would like. Remember the hinges are sold as a pair.

  • Step 3: Right or Left (optional)

This step is if you have a Round and Square corner hinge. If you don’t… skip this step.

This is easy as pie. Just look at this diagram, If the square corners are on the left… its a left hand. If they are on the right it’s a right hand.

Done. Now let’s move on.

  • Step 4: Finish and Finish

Choose your finish or color you love, enter in the quantity you want… and you are FINISHED and ready to check out.

(Remember most of the hinges are sold as pairs, so look for “sold as pairs”, or “sold individually” on the page)

Some of you may worry about the hole placement. If there is not a diagram of the measurements and its something you are worried about. give us a call and we should be able to find that out for you.

So guess what? You just did it. No sweat. See, I told you.
